Projects
Goutte d'Eau (Deutschland) e.V. currently supports the following projects:
The Discovery Farm
In Cambodia, people with intellectual disabilities remain one of the most marginalized groups in the country. In response to the need for a safe environment for young adults with intellectual disabilities to live their lives in dignity, Goutte d’eau Cambodia built the Kep farm in 2016. Located on a big farmland, residents receive care, get support, learn to live as independently as possible, and participate in the life of the local community.
In addition to existing programs such as vegetable and fruits farming and tea production, the goal of the Discovery Farm is to add new livestock and income generating activities by opening part of the actual farm to the public for certain days and hours inviting individuals, families with children, tourists to spend time at the farm and enjoy various offers such as:
- Coffee-tea shop with snacks and refreshments,
- Small market selling vegetable, tea, and farm products,
- Small petting zoo: caring and feeding the animals (cows, goats), taking pony rides, etc.,
- Fishing activities
These activities will offer new forms of therapies, new types of responsibilities to the residents, new inclusion opportunities and new income generating activities to support the activities of the Kep Farm.
Income generating activities
Goutte d’eau Cambodia’s projects in the field of unsafe migration in the border town of Poipet are essential. They help protect children, teenagers, young adults, and their families from the risks connected to unsafe migration and allow them to create a better future for themselves and their families. The programs include Drop-In centers for marginalized street children, non-formal education and school (re)integration for vulnerable children, and residentials centers for the children who cannot live in their families or extended families for the time being.
To support vulnerable teenagers, young adults, and their families, several specific programs have been developed to give them the opportunity to get trained, find employments, or create an Income generating Activity (food truck, nail salon, moto repair station, etc.) thereby protecting them from unsafe migration and giving them a chance to live a better and more secure life in Poipet.
Often the creation of an Income Generating Activity allows a family to get out of extreme poverty and live a more secured life where children do not suffer from abuse, go to school, get professional training, and eventually build a life on their own.
To improve the success of the Income Generating Activities, specific support will be given to the program to increase the number of families and the support they receive, including higher loans, advice on how to develop a business model, and better pay-back and saving schemes.
