Children with disabilities

Piseth* lives with her grand-parents and younger brother in a remote village outsite Neak Loeung. Both have physical and intellectual disabilities and require significant assistance during daily activities. Her grand-parents have been her primary caregivers since she was born. They struggled to give her the support she needed and as a result, Piseth never attended school and lived isolated from social interactions with her peers.

Since Damnok Toek identified her and her family, they have benefitted from the programs offered by the Day Care Center. Both children have regularly attended the Day Care Center and their grandfather has attended the weekly peer support groups focusing on care, hygiene, nutrition, cognitive development, and physiotherapy.

Within two years Piseth made significant progress becoming more independent and improving her social interactions and mobility after a hip surgery. Her increased mobility and socialization have given Piseth and her family new hope for her future as she aspired to attend school and work to support her family.
