Srey Phea* comes from a large struggling family of eight siblings. Srey Phea’s parents worked as farmers. Their income was too low to feed the whole family and so they decided to move to Poi Pet.

After resorting to begging to survive, they ended up migrating with their children to Thailand. To survive, the whole family sold flowers and begged in the streets and thus Srey Phea and her siblings never had the chance to go to school.

When Srey Phea was sent back to Cambodia she was interviewed at Damnok Toek’s Child Migration Office and identified as a victim of physical and emotional abuse by her mother and her brother. She and her family were referred to Damnok Toek and received support to stabilize the family so that Srey Phea could start going to school.

She was accepted in the Non-Formal Education programme and now shows great determination to continue studying and has assured not to return to Thailand. She now feels more confident with herself and want to become a teacher to support her mother financially when she grows up.
