Family reunion

Reuniting children with their families

Chantha* was born missing both of his arms and one of the bones of his left leg. His mother, unaware of how to properly care for a child with disabilities and overwhelmed by the doctor’s prognosis that he would not survive, left him at the hospital.

He was refered to Damnok Toek’s Small Group Homes,  a program dedicated to children with disabilities, where he progressed rapidly. He was taught to be self-sufficient and learned to use his legs and feet in place of his arms. Intelligent and charismatic, he impressed his parental figures and quickly developed confidence to interact with other children, including children without disabilities.

Damnok Toek’s family tracing was successful and Chantha was reunited with his grand-parents. Considering the intrincacies of family reintegration, especially in the case of children with disabilities, Damnok Toek devised a multi-step plan to ensure a successful reunification.

Thanks to Damnok Toek’s programs, Chantha was able to move back to live with his grand-parents, brother, and cousins and to successfully attend school where he made many friends thanks to his natural charisma and sociability. This caring and loving environment has allowed him to tackle his future with confidence and strength planning to be a policeman one day.
